Dr. Mae Jemison was honored at the African Union Ambassadors’ Ball in December 2022 as a key leader who has worked for the advancement of Africa and the Diaspora. She was presented with the Inaugural Mickey Leland Award to acknowledge her outstanding global leadership, especially throughout the African Diaspora, and her invaluable contribution in advancing international education, human rights, and global cooperation.  The award is named after the late Congressman Mickey Leland who strove to bring equality and sustainability throughout the Diaspora.
